Breast or testicular exams:

Students can make an appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner by calling 541-346-2770 to discuss their sexual health and to learn about self breast and testicular exams.

CCare:

Oregon Contraceptive Care is a federal program that provides free birth control and contraceptive services to qualifying men and women. Contact the Health Center Main Reception Desk for details and to complete an enrollment form or call the CCare Medical Billing Coordinator at 541-346-3572.  Click here to download the CCare enrollment forms.  Submit completed forms to a receptionist at the Main Reception Desk. You may also visit the Oregon Health Authority website.

Contraception:

The Health Center provides education about and access to a wide variety of contraceptive methods. Students can make a $15.00 appointment to meet with a doctor or nurse practitioner by calling 541-346-2770 to discuss contraceptive methods and to get a prescription, if necessary, for their contraceptive choice.

Emergency Contraception, Plan B and Ella:

Emergency contraception reduces the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex. Emergency contraception must be taken within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse to avoid pregnancy, but the sooner it is taken, the more effective it will be. It will not harm an existing pregnancy.

All students 17 or older, men or women, may purchase Plan B from our pharmacy without a prescription for only $25.00. Plan B loses effectiveness 72 hours after intercourse.  Ella requires a prescription, but is much more effective than Plan B between 48 and 120 hours after sex.

Plan B is provided free to students who qualify for CCare or if a student needs it as a result of a sexual assault. Students younger than 17 must make an appointment by calling 541-346-2770 to speak with a doctor or nurse practitioner and to obtain a prescription.

HIV Testing:

The Health Center provides confidential HIV testing. If billed to a student’s UO account, it will state “lab appointment.” If paid by cash, there will be no reference to the lab test on the student account. Students must make an appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner by calling 541-346-2770 to get a lab order.

The cost is $15 for the appointment. Call the lab at 541-346-2736 for the most current HIV test pricing.

There are three types of HIV tests. These include (from least to most expensive):

  • blood draw with results in about two weeks
  • oral swab with results in about two weeks
  • blood draw quick turnaround with results in 24-48 hours

For anonymous testing, students may go to Lane County Public Health.

HPV vaccine:

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the US. It causes genital warts and cervical cancer. HPV can also cause anal warts and is a risk factor for anal cancer.

HPV vaccine is recommended for both women and men and protects against four major types of HPV. The vaccine series consists of three injections which are given over a six month period.

Students might be eligible to receive the vaccine at reduced cost. In addition, a student’s health insurance might cover the costs. For more information contact the Nurse Specialty Clinic at 541-346-2739.

Latex Barriers:

Male condoms, female condoms, finger cots and dental dams are available free throughout the Health Center. In addition, we provide free lube. Students must ask for female condoms at the Peer Health Office located on the first floor of the Health Center. Latex free male condoms and extra large condoms are also available upon request at the Peer Health Office.

Pregnancy Testing and Counseling:

Students may make an appointment to see a doctor or nurse practitioner to request a pregnancy test and to get counseling regarding options, if desired. Call 541-346-2770 for a $15.00 appointment. There is an additional charge for the lab test.

Sexual Assault Support:

The Health Center is committed to providing students physical and emotional support following a sexual assault.

During clinic hours, students can be seen by Nurse Practitioners who have been trained to care for survivors of sexual assault. There is no charge for this confidential appointment.

Depending on the circumstances, medical services may include a physical exam, emergency contraception, and antibiotics to treat a potential infection. In addition, we provide access to resources including referrals to the UO Counseling Center and Sexual Assault Support Services.

We have the ability to collect evidence upon the student’s request, but we are not required to report an assault to law enforcement.

If you have been sexually assaulted and are considering evidence collection, we ask that you:
  • Do not urinate if possible. If there is concern about a drug-facilitated sexual assault, the first available urine will be collected at the clinic or emergency room.
  • Do not eat or drink.
  • Do not bathe or brush your teeth.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Bring clothes worn at the time of assault and immediately after assault, especially undergarments.
  • Bring a change of clothing.
  • Bring a support person.

Should a survivor desire services outside of clinic hours, we encourage you to contact Sexual Assault Support Services at 541-343-SASS (7727)  or go to a local emergency room.
